Course Overview

This three-year course is meticulously designed to cover the foundational topics outlined in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS). Our goal is not only to teach Jyotisha principles but also to integrate spiritual practice into daily life. Without making this practice a routine, what you learn will remain mere information (Mercury) that passes through your mind without being fully absorbed and transformed into knowledge (Jupiter).

During the second and third years, we will delve into essential divisional charts (Varga Charts), planetary strengths, and Arudha, alongside Panchanga studies and numerous other topics you won’t find in classical texts. 

Learning Approach

We strongly advise our students to avoid relying on internet sources for Jyotisha, as they can lead to confusion and cluttered learning. The key is to focus on understanding the principles and foundations upon which you can build your knowledge (Dhi). 

I - Year of Gàneshā

Before we start any subject to learn, we need to have clear roadmap ahead of us. As navigation is required to reach to any destination, our attempt to understand this vast ancient knowledge requires our inbuilt navigation to be activated through Ganesha.

Please familiarize yourself with some nomenclature and basic information uploaded in “Courses” section as prerequisite slides.

Jyotishā Roadmap and Ganesha Sādhanā

  • Study Plan and how to approach this subject
  • Gaṅeshā Sādhanā

Vedaṇga Jyotishā and Kālpurushā

  • Various Parts of Vedā, Jyotisha as a part of Vedāṇga

Jyotisha Devatā ( Various Deities in Astrology to be worshipped for remedial measures )

  • Foundational understanding of deities and their importance in Jyotishā
  • Dwādash Ādityās, Ekādaṣh Rùdrā

Rāshi Adhyāyā ( Signs and Lord of the Signs )

  • Vedic Timescales, Yuga Divisions, Creation of Signs , Gaṇeshā and Bhavā.
  • Exaltation, Mùltrīkòna and Svàkśetra

Gràhā Adhyāya ( Planets and Significations )

  • Understanding Gràhā and their significations.
  • Dàsh Avàtāra and Gràhā
  • Ādi Devàtā and Pràtyādī Devàtā

Drīshti (Planatory Aspects and Sign Aspects )

  • Understanding various types of Dṛistī of Plantes and Signs and it's deeper meanings.

Bhavā and Kārakā ( Houses and Significators )

  • Understanding Kendra, Kònā, Dùśhthāna Tṛi śhaḍ āya
  • Kārakā of the each Bhāva ( significator of each houses )

Understading Lagṅa, Lagṅa Adhīpatī

  • Learning Ascendent, Lord of the Ascendent and other lords.

Bhaveśhā ( Lord of the house / Signs )

  • Understanding lords and their placement in various houses.

II - Year of Durgā

Initiation and Shivā Paṇcakṣarī Dikshā

Viśeshā Lagnā

  • Additional Lagṇa such as Bhāvà Lagṇa, Pṛāṅapadā Lagṅa & Hòrā Lagṇa
  • Hora Lagna and Pranapada Application

Varga Charts (Divisional Charts , D-Charts ) Introduction.

  • Harmonic of consciousness
  • Groups / Scheme of Varga Charts.
    Shad Varga, Dash Varga and Sodasha Varga

Hora (D2 Chart )

  • Philosophy of Hora and first division of Rashi. This Division of Rashi deals with 2nd house of rashi chart which focus on one's family, wealth, indication of rajyoga or if any rifts as well death.

Drekkana (D3 Chart)

  • This 1/3 division of rashi commonly known as Dreshkana or Drekkana deals primarily with siblings and one's karma as this division maps into 3rd house of rashi chart.

Chaturthāmśa (D4 Chart)

  • 1/4 division of rāshi deals with significations of 4th house of rāshi chart, primarily property matters as this division is still on the conscious plane.

Navāmśa (D9 Chart)

  • Parāsharā ranks this divisional chart as second highest important division in Viṁsopāka Bala ( Strength ) scheme. Navāmśā primarily deals with one destiny and fortune ( Bhāgya ) , also known as Bhāgya Kundali and maps to the 4th house and 9th house of the rāshi chart. Parāsharā Navāṃsa deals with one's relationships and marriage and it is 1/9th division.

Dashāmśa (D10 Chart)

  • An important divisional chart which deals with one's Karmā , career and profession. This 1/10 the division of the sign focus on 10th house matters of the rāshi chart.

Saptāmśa ( D7 Chart)

  • Saptāmśa deals with progeny , pregnancy and kids. We will learn how Sapta Rasa are associated with Sapta Dhātu and how they affect the one's progeny.

Dwādashāmśa or Suryāmśa

  • This 1/12 divisional chart focuses on all about parents and their influence on the native. How native is going to benefit or not from the parents, how parents feel about the native, comfortless and happiness from the parents or vice versa.

Naīṣargikā Dashā, Chakra Dashā and Vīmshottari Dasha

  • Dashā means nothing but experience of events as it happens in our life based upon our past life Karmās. There are various types of dashā but we will start to learn some fundamental of this system to practice timing of the events.

III - Year of Shivā

Panchāṇga elements

  • Study 5 limbs of the time and it's usage in astrological predictions and remedial measures in our day to day life.
  • Brief study of Vāra, Tithī , Nakṣhatṛa, Horā and Karaṇa

Introduction to Kālachakra and Dig chakrā

  • Kāla itself means time and Chakrā means wheel. It is the study of the quality of the time. All living beings or Sṛisti ( creation ) are under the influence of kāla and chossing the right time doing remedial measures or doing daily pooja or any chores will surely gives better results.

Chatūrvīṃsaṃsā or Siddhāmṣā (D24 chart)

  • Continue learning another important divisional chart to understand what native will learn or his inherent inclinations in terms of Vidyā (formal education) in school all the way to doctorate level. It is 1/24th division of rāshi and maps to the 4th house of the rāshi chart (D1).

Trīmsāmṣā (D30 chart)

  • This divisional chart deals with enemies , misfortunes and danger to the life and diseases.

Introduction of Arudhā Lagṇa or Padā Lagṇa

  • Arudhā simply means mounting on, or riding on something, an image or reflection. It is very important concept in Vedic astrology and parāsharā has allocated entire chapter. It is very complicated and deep layered subject.

Introduction to the houses from Arudhā Lagṇa

  • Reckoning of the houses from Arudhā Lagṇa has completely different approach as they shows the reflecting external energy as world perceives you.

Introduction to Arudhā of the 12 houses

  • Each house has their own significations but how those significations are manifesting in the world for you is a different for everyone. We will study how to calculate arudhā padā of 12 houses and it's usage.

Introduction to different types of Baḷa

  • Understanding various strengths small tit bits of sthanā Baḷa , Kendradi Baḷa, Uchha Baḷa , Saptvargiya Baḷa

Shaḍbala (strength) and it's applications

  • Baḷa simply means strengths , Shaḍ means Six. All Gṛahā derives their strength to give results from different sources and particularly Shaḍbala shows how much strength the Grahā has to give it's results fully.

Yogākārakā

  • Surya Yogā, Chandra Yoga, Rājyoga, Dhanā Yogā, Darīdṛa yoga
